A linear regulated power supply unit for the Sony Playstation SCPH100x

by Mick Feuerbacher, April 2006

This is a proposal for the design of a linear regulated power supply replacing the switch-mode stock unit. I am providing the schematics here, which is rather straightforward and easy to build. I have not tried it myself but it is on my list of future projects. Please let me know your experiences if you decide to build it.

The PSU consists of two independent rails for the two voltages (7.6 and 3.6 V) required.

The design is based on the National LM317 regulator, which is capable to deliver more than the required current. (I have measured the current drawn from the stock unit, and it always remains well below 1 A).
